Daily Stoic(s)
I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.
Yesterday - All For One, One For All
What’s good for one person may or may not be good for the whole. We have choices to make about what’s good for us and good for everyone else as well. I think about the pandemic. I think some people would say that staying home and shutting everything down was a good whole decision that was good for the individual. The other side of that is that while it was good for our individual health, it wasn’t good for our lively hood. It wasn’t good for our kids education. So, which was the better choice? This is one of those stoics where it’s hard to determine what good for the individual and bad or good for everyone else means. Maybe there is no definition and we just do the best.
Today - Word’s Can’t Be Unsaid
There is a Linkin Park song that says something along the lines of I can’t take back the words I said. I can’t seem to figure out which song it is. It’s a small part of the song but it’s always stuck with me that something to the effect of, “we can’t take back the words we said.” Maybe it’s a different band. Regardless it’s always something that has stuck with me. When I feel like I’ve wronged someone with words after calming down. I apologize because I want to soften the blow of those words. It’s hurtful and can leave a scar. The scar is there whether or not I apologize. Apologizing just softens it and hopefully helps it heal a bit. This is why I try to not say those words from the start. Unfortunately, I’m not perfect.
