I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.
Tuesday - This Isn’t For Fun. It’s For Life
This stoic hits home with social media. There are debates going on that are often a waste of effort. There are headlines from news outlets that have an agenda (usually, click this link) and don’t report on facts. This is why during the pandemic I stayed out of the headlines and focused more on the statistics and data, because that’s what mattered. We are seeing a decline in cases and yet the news outlets will look for the next dire thing. Or people will look for excuses of the data. It’s annoying and exhausting to try and sift through.
Yesterday - The Supreme Court Of Your Mind
Actions speak louder than words. Both in times of convenience and inconvenience. One of my favorite words is integrity, or doing what you say you’ll do. I’ve tried to live by this word. It doesn’t happen all the times. It happens most of the time. I want to share examples but I feel like it’s gloating or show boating. A good example could be this blog. I’ve said I’ll do the daily stoic every day. Most times I have. Some times like this post and the previous post I haven’t. I do make up for it though.
When someone asks me if I’ll do something and I say yes, I work to make that happen. If I don’t feel I can make something happen then I’ll say no, because I hold the word integrity so dear.
Today - Anything Can Be An Advantage
Things we feel are holding us back can be an advantage. Height in sports is a big one. Yet we have several examples of that not being the case. Muggsy Bogues a former basketball player at five feet three inches is the example in the book. Jose Altuve is another example. At five feet five inches he’s an all-star baseball player and on the path to the Hall of Fame.
For me, I moved around a lot. At the time it seemed like a disadvantage to have to move and not be able to keep friends. Looking back that did give me several advantages. I could start over in a new place over and over again. I was an awkward kid all the way through high school. I was able to fail a lot and experiment with a new set of people without having a previous stigma attached. I think it helped me to better understand people and how to better interact with them. I also got to travel the country and world which allowed me to experience a diverse set of cultures and people.
