As I embark on my purposeful 2020, I’ve decided to shift my security content from this site (not that there was a lot anyway) to the ColaSec site. I still plan to post here and it will be about more personal and life journey type of stuff. I started ColaSec with a buddy of mine in 2014. We were coming back from BSides Charleston wanting to start up our own BSides in Columbia, SC. We though it best to try starting up a local user group before jumping into the deep end of a conference.
Our first meeting had four people. That’s since grown to an average of 25-30 people per meeting. That’s not something to scoff at considering it’s Columbia, SC. It’s one of my proudest accomplishments in my security career. I’m even more proud of the fact that we were forward thinking enough to build a foundation that lasted people leaving. My buddy is still there. I’ve left and so did two others we brought on early as organizers. The group has never been stronger and is moving towards non-profit status. Several of us that have left have been pulled back in to help contribute to that cause and potentially expand the group.
Maybe this is a future talk.
My latest post is building on my 2020 talk idea, The Agile Security Team. I’ll make sure to post here whenever I post there, so this interested in that type of topic can go there.
