I am blogging everyday (or nearly everyday) on The Daily Stoic.

Thursday - A Productive Use For Contempt

As I’ve gotten older I’ve found that even the most successful people have demons. This was highlighted recently by Will Smith. I’ve read his book and there’s a lot of things he had to work through and overcome. I’ve been doing the same with parts of my life. I’ve been told I don’t have any insecurities when in fact I have lots of them.

Yesterday - There’s Nothing Wrong With Being Wrong

I was having a conversation with a fellow peer recently. I was talking about a document I put together. It went through eight different versions and at one point someone told me it was shit. I said that’s fine I’m not tied to the document personally and I’ve instituted ever bit of feedback from others for the document. So it wasn’t my document it was all of ours. Tell me how to make it not shit and I will change it.

I don’t take discussions which people often think are arguments personally. They can get heated but I try to keep an open mind and admit being wrong. This is how progress happens. Having discussions and adjusting perceptions as needed.

Today - Things Happen In Training

I don’t take work personally. I accept that I’m going to disagree with people on ideas. I don’t every think they’re a bad person. I think they may be misguided because of experiences or how they approach things. One thing I do need to get better at is recognizing that they may change their mind at some point and I can’t hold how they used to act against them.
